Can we serve you better? The
Information Technology Alliance (ITA) is an independent, not
for profit, professional association of leading firms and
companies whose purpose is to share information and build
relationships that improve the way its member firms, and
their clients, do business. RW&A has been a member of
the ITA since 2005.
RW&A and the ITA believe that success comes through the sharing of
knowledge and experiences, and we realize the importance
of honest, constructive, and actionable client feedback.
Therefore, the ITA have prepared an online survey designed to
capture some service related information. We ask that you
take a few minutes to provide details about your
expectations of your professional services providers. Note
that we are looking for feedback about all of your
professional advisors (lawyers, CPAs, accountants, etc)
expectations, not just those from your technology solutions
provider.
You will not be required to provide any contact
information with this survey; the survey is completely
anonymous in format. Your answers will be consolidated,
analyzed, and discussed at the next ITA conference at the end of
October.
On behalf of the entire ITA organization, we would like to
thank you for your participation in this important process. We appreciate
the feedback and plan to do this survey each year to help
ensure we stay properly attuned to all their client
needs and expectations.
The survey should take less than 5-10 minutes to
complete. Please click
this link to access the survey. We would appreciate you
completing the survey by October 15th so that the ITA can work
with the results in preparing for the upcoming conference.

Purchasing Options
Quite
often we don’t hesitate to lease a new car or finance home renovations.
But have you considered leasing or financing your software and hardware
purchases?
Firms often choose to lease assets
like photocopiers, software and hardware rather than buy them for a
variety of reasons. Leases offer more flexibility in terms of adjusting
to changes in technology and capacity needs.
There are two ways of accounting for leases. In an operating lease, the
lease expense is treated as an operating expense in the income
statement, thereby reducing taxable income. The lease does not,
however, affect the balance sheet. In a capital lease, the lease is
recognized both as an asset and as a liability (for the lease payments)
on the balance sheet. The firm can claim depreciation each year on the
asset and also deducts the interest expense component of the lease
payment each year.
How do you categorize your lease? A lease should be treated as a capital lease if it meets any one of the following four conditions:
- if the lease life exceeds 75% of the life of the asset,
- if there is a transfer of ownership to the lessee at the end of the lease term,
- if there is an option to purchase the asset at a "bargain price" at the end of the lease term, or
- if
the present value of the lease payments, discounted at an appropriate
discount rate, exceeds 90% of the fair market value of the asset.
Always consult with your accountant to determine the best solution for you.
